Fishing is a favorite sport of Tybee Island locals and visitors year round. Fishing is allowed from the beach in many areas as well as from Tybee's oceanside Pier and Pavilion. Rock jetties that are located on the north side of the island are a favorite spot for crabbers, but they are also a perfect place for fishing. A fishing pier is also available for public use on the west side of the island. The pier is located off of Chatham Avenue on the Back River which separates Tybee Island from Little Tybee Island.

Ecology and History Interpretive Centers

Oatland Island Education Center Visitors can observe native animals such as Florida panthers, Eastern timber wolves, alligators, and many more in their natural habitat. Fort Pulaski National Monument Designed by Robert E. Lee and was the site of a major Civil War battle. This 5,600 acre national park includes the well-preserved 19th century military Fort, interpretive programs, nature trails, exhibits, a picnic area, a visitors center, scenic marsh, water, and wildlife. The Beach Tybee Island's miles of sandy beaches are family-oriented with generally calm water, wide enough for sports, and have plenty of public facilities located nearby. Umbrellas, lounge chairs, and rafts are available for rent.
Tybee Ocean Pier & Pavilion Located at the heart of Tybee's public beach, the Tybee Pier and Pavilion is a great spot with a spectacular view. Besides being a great fishing spot, it's also a meeting place for dances, live musical performances, and special events. Picnic tables, a snack bar, and public restrooms provide a perfect spot for families to grab a quick bite and cool refreshments during a hot day at the beach. For Birding Enthusiasts
Tybee Island is on the Colonial Coastal Birding trail and hosts over two hundred and eleven bird species. Located on the Atlantic Flyway Tybee Island is frequently host to tens of thousands of migratory birds. We are also a safe haven and winter destination for wintering shorebirds like the endangered Piping Plover, Purple Sandpiper, Red Knot, Black bellied Plover, Dunlin and many more. No matter if you are a birder that stays on the veranda, beats the bush, or just strolls on the beach, Tybee island will be a great experience for you.
Year round, we often see and hear the American Oystercatcher, Great Blue Heron, Black and Yellow Crowned Night Heron, Green Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Louisiana Heron, Black Skimmer, Clapper Rail, Osprey, Brown Pelican, Cormorant, and Willet. In the winter we see a variety of ducks/water fowl including Bufflehead, Merganser (both Hooded and Red Breasted), Loons, and Scoters. Sally Pearce Nature Trail This short trail is located on the south side of US-80 at Fifth Avenue on Tybee Island.
Blue Heron Nature Trail Located off the north side of US-80 opposite Lewis Ave., this trail is almost directly across US-80 from the Sally Pearce Nature Trail on Tybee Island.
North Beach Birding Trail Walk west from the Tybee Island Lighthouse down North Beach into the Bird Sanctuary. Access the beach through the North Beach Parking Area, located behind Fort Screven on Meddin Dr. on Tybee Island.

Old Tybee-Savannah Railroad Trail Located alongside U.S. Highway 80 between Tybee Island and Wilmington Island, this 6-mile crushed stone multipurpose trail follows the exact path of the historic rail line that once connected Tybee Island with Savannah in the 1800s. A great place for jogging and bicycle riding.
